Worldline Introduces 'Tap to Pay' for iPhone in France

Published about 1 year ago

Global payment services leader, Worldline, has announced the introduction of ‘Tap to Pay’ for iPhone users in France. This new service allows large merchant customers to accept in-person contactless payments in a seamless and secure way.

A New Era in Payment Services

With the ‘Tap to Pay’ feature, merchants are able to accept payments from various contactless sources such as credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets. This is done through an iPhone and the Worldline Tap on Mobile iOS app, without the need for any additional hardware or payment terminal.

How Does It Work?

At the point of checkout, businesses will simply prompt their customers to hold their contactless Mastercard or Visa, their iPhone or Apple Watch near the business’ iPhone. The payment will then be securely completed using near-field communication (NFC) technology.

Privacy and Security

The ‘Tap to Pay’ feature on iPhone, uses built-in features of the iPhone to keep businesses’ and customers’ data private and secure. Importantly, no cardholder data is stored on the device or on Apple servers.

A Versatile Payment Solution

The ‘Tap to Pay’ service on iPhone offers a range of opportunities for businesses to streamline their operations. This includes use cases like queue busting to manage in-store traffic during peak times, payment on delivery or at the restaurant table, among others.

Worldline’s Deputy CEO, Marc-Henri Desportes, expressed pride in enabling ‘Tap to Pay’ for their merchants across multiple countries. After successful launches in Australia and the Netherlands earlier this year, France is the latest market to offer this flexible and secure payment solution.
