Klarna and Airbnb Introduce 'Pay Over Time' in Ireland

Airbnb has partnered with Klarna to launch Pay Over Time, a new payment method that allows guests in Ireland to spread the cost of their reservation. Today’s launch is part of a larger, phased global roll-out that aims to offer this alternative payment method in twenty countries across three continents by early 2024.

What is Pay Over Time?

Originally introduced in North America as part of Airbnb’s 2023 Summer Release, Pay Over Time is a feature that allows guests in Ireland to apply to pay for their next stay in three interest-free installments over two months. With Klarna’s flexible payment solutions, booking unique stays around the world, whether it’s a cottage in Connemara, a treehouse in Thailand, or a farm in France, is now more accessible and straightforward.

Amanda Cupples, General Manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb, expressed her satisfaction with the partnership, stating that it gives guests greater flexibility to spread their payments over several weeks or months. She further noted that choosing the right payment plan has now become significantly easier, whether one is booking a solo trip or organizing a get together with friends.

Colin Creagh, Head of Klarna in Ireland, echoed these sentiments, highlighting that one of the top requests from Airbnb guests is more ways to pay for their stays. He shared his excitement about bringing Klarna’s flexible payment options to Airbnb guests worldwide.

Expansion Across Europe

In addition to Ireland, Pay Over Time with Klarna is also launching in six other European countries, including Czechia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, with more countries expected to follow later in the year.

Eligibility for Pay Over Time

Starting today, Pay Over Time with Klarna is available to guests in Ireland for reservations priced between €35 and €1,500. The option is presented at checkout, where guests can choose to either pay for their reservation in full at the time of booking or opt to Pay Over Time with Klarna.
